Utah Community Action is a multi-faceted agency that helps low-income individuals and families overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. Utah Community Action helps remove these barriers through six core programs:
The HEAT Program helps families in low-income households pay their bills during the coldest months of the year, but they also offer crisis assistance year round.
The HEAT utility assistance program runs from November 1st through April 30th annually. The program helps families pay their utility bills, so it frees up their money to take care of other financial needs. The maximum benefit is $700 per season (November-April) based on income and household number. They also offer a crisis assistance program that can help families in addition to their regular HEAT benefit. The crisis benefit increased from $1000 split between both utilities to now having up to $1000 available towards EACH utility if they qualify for crisis.
The HEAT Program is preparing to open November 1st for the general public. Community clients can begin calling on October 22nd at 801-521-6107 or they may go online and schedule their own appointment at www.ucaheat.appointy.com. There are multiple options for the general public to apply for assistance: 1) Schedule an appointment with an intake worker at 801-521-6107, 2) Mail-in an application to 764 S. 200 W., Salt Lake City, UT 84104, 3) Fax an application to 801-214-3212 or, 4) Apply online at HEAT utility assistance program.
