2020 Census – What you need to know!

CENSUS DAY IS APRIL 1, 2020

Find all of the information you need about the 2020 Census at this website https://census2020.utah.gov/ (Sign up to get a reminder, PSA Videos, FAQs).

Beginning in mid-March, you will receive a notice in the mail to complete the 2020 Census. For the first time ever, the U.S. Census Bureau will accept responses online, but you can still respond by phone or mail if you prefer. You can begin completing your census as early as March 12, 2020.

In May, the U.S. Census Bureau will begin following up in person with households that haven’t responded to the census. Completing the census is required! It is a way to participate in our democracy and say, “I COUNT!” The Census impacts our ability to plan for the next decade.

Your response matters! Education, health clinics, fire departments, schools, roads and highways — the census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year. Make sure you complete your census to ensure that we count everyone once, only once, and in the right place.

A message from Tooele City Library Director Jami Carter

Hello Tooele City! This is Jami Carter, your Library Director. The 2020 Census opens this month. This is the first time in history the US Census can be completed online. Your librarians are SO excited to help you #getcounted that we’ve designed some fun surprises including a Census Birthday Bash for the community on March 30 at 6:00 P.M. at the Tooele City Library. Everyone is invited!

The Census matters because you matter. When you count yourself and your household in the 2020 Census, it brings funding for important resources and programs into our community. Utah received approximately 5.7 billion dollars each year over the past 10 years. Tooele County received some of those federal dollars each year. The amount that came back into your county was determined by our population count from the 2010 Census. Unfortunately, Tooele County was the most undercounted County in the Utah during the 2010 Census. That funding is used for at least 55 programs including Highway Planning, WIC, CHIP, School Lunch, Low Income Housing Credits, and many more. In 2020, our goal is to achieve a complete count for our County and communities.

You matter! Your participation in the Census matters! Your librarians are ready to answer questions, help you locate the Census, and complete your census questionnaire. It’s only 9 questions. What do you have to lose?

Please contact your librarians at 435-882-2182 for more information. We are happy to help!
