Guidelines for Monuments, Headstones or Grave Markers

The following are maximum measurements and include a required 4” mowing strip around the monument:

Single Flat:               26” Wide X 48” Long X 3” High

Double Flat:             26” Wide X 96” Long X 3” High

Single Tall:               26” Wide X 48” Long X 36” High

Double Tall:             26” Wide X 96” Long X 36” High

Headstones on Cremation and/or Infant Grave Spaces must be no larger than 16” Wide X 24” Long X 16” High, this includes the required 4” mowing strip.

Secondary Headstones on any grave space must be no larger than 20” Wide X 24” Long, this includes the required 4” mowing strip and must be set at ground level. Secondary Headstones cannot have any vases or open vase holes. All Secondary Headstones must be contained within the existing grave space.

Vases are allowed on Flat or Tall Headstones, provided they are included in the headstone itself or in the 4” lawnmower strip and must be placed at the north or south ends of the monument.  Open vase holes are not allowed.

Family Lot Monuments (as in the older section of the Cemetery) are no longer allowed.

All Headstones must be made of granite, marble or memorial bronze.

Any deviations to the above regulations must be approved by the Tooele City Cemetery Supervisor.

All veterans are entitled to a headstone that is provided by the Government Department of Veteran Affairs.  Contact the cemetery supervisor at the Records Office  for more information or for an application.
